3 Mistakes to Avoid While Traveling

If you’re traveling, then you know that the best way to avoid a silly mishap is to stay safe. But sometimes your safety or comfort can be compromised by silly mistakes. In this blog I hope to help you avoid these common mistakes when traveling.

Traveling Mistake #1 - Not Packing a Carry-On

When Traveling by Plane A carry-on bag is a traveler’s best friend. This is because all of your essentials can fit in a carry-on bag. Here are some common items that you should pack in your carry-on bag.

• Passport

• Money

• Keys

• Phone

• Laptop or tablet

• Power bank

• Sunglasses

• Earbuds

• Passport

• Wallet

Chargers for your smartphone, cameras, medication, travel journal, first aid items, if you are flying, remember that carry on bags have to be a specific size and width make sure to check with whatever airline you will be flying with to make sure you’re in compliance with their rules… :)

I typically don’t check in a bag almost ever. I’ve even flown internationally across the globe and only flown with my carry-on. I love to use packing cubes to help keep me organized and help me utilize all the space in my suitcase.

Travel Mistake #2 - Not Packing the right shoes

I wear my Blundstones 90% of the time, but I’m very particular about the shoes I bring along. I have had my fair share of scary shoe stories where I left with MASSIVE blisters that left scars on my feet. The shoes need to be wide enough for my feet, and they should fit like an extra layer of skin (aka no gaps) and preferably waterproof or resistant depending on where you are travelling to.

I learned this hard way. One of the longest mornings for me was during the time I was wearing the wrong shoes on the most magical hike. They left my feet with massive burns on both sides on my feet and I was physically limping for the first half of my trip.

Travel Mistake #3 Not Knowing Your Route

I am always amazed by how many people get in their car and head out on a road trip without having at least an idea of where they are going. Sure, not every road trip requires insanely detailed planning, but that is also what makes it fun! If you want to go on a road trip and do something spontaneous, I am no stranger to that... however I at least have an idea of what I want to do and where I want to go so I am not stressed on my trip.

All in all travel doesn't have to be scary. The above three mistakes are things I myself have made on occasions and learned from them. I tend to be more on top of my game when it comes to road trips; however it is good to be aware of the things that could go wrong and how to avoid them.
